Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club is celebrating after clinching second place overall as the carnival season comes to an end for another year.

The club’s Christmas-themed entry, called It’s A Cracker, impressed the judges and spectators along the route of the final carnival in Glastonbury on Saturday night (November 21st), where it won third place.

The club also did well in Bridgwater, Burnham, Shepton, Wells and North Petherton to win second place overall in the juvenile category.

Hillview’s Duncan Britton told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Sunday evening: “It’s been a really good year for Hillview – we have all thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone is delighted with how it’s gone and the end result of second in the County Cup is superb.”

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the outstanding support of local businesses and people across our community. We thank all our members, children and all those who’ve got involved – it’s been a super year.”

“The club is really thriving at the moment – we’ve had lots of new members joining us and it’s been great that several past members have come back to help us, which has been fantastic.”

“Planning for next year is now underway and we can look forward with confidence following the recent cash grant from the Town Council towards the costs of building our new shed. That will really help us to build a great cart in 2016.”

He said special thanks go to the club’s key business supporters who were Burnham Waste, Manuflex, AM Bacon Tractor and Machinery, The Print Hive, Morley and Phill Tibbs, The Lighthouse Inn, Highbridge Caravans, Oak Tree Arena, Jim Vernicombe and B&H Car and Vans of Highbridge.

Meanwhile, Duncan added that the club will be at local supermarkets in coming weeks and at the town’s skating rink, in addition to the usual carol singing Christmas tour for charity around Burnham and Highbridge from December 7th.

Bridgwater’s Marina Sydenham won the juvenile category this year, just ahead of Hillview on points. Meanwhile, Gremlins Carnival Club’s ‘Lights Camera Action’, a Hollywood-themed entry, scooped the overall championship as the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Association unveiled its final results.
