Future housing plans for Burnham and Highbridge to be debated

Residents in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being offered a chance to have their say on future new housing in the area.

The towns' Neighbourhood Planning Group will be meeting to consider possible policies on housing on Tuesday November 3rd at 7pm.

The meeting will take place at Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre in Berrow Road, next to the swimming pool.

Phil Harvey, the group's co-ordinator, right, told "Sedgemoor District Council this week publishes its five-year review of their planning policies."

"They have recently published their Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) and their Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). These are both documents produced by external consultants but usually have a significant influence on local authority plans."

"Essentially, they confirm that the present strategy of 500-600 new houses per year over the whole of Sedgemoor is appropriate. At the moment, the present policy is that 15% of that goes to Burnham and Highbridge. If that continues, there is enough in the pipeline for the next five years."

"The purpose of a neighbourhood plan is to 'add value' to the district council's policies, not duplicate them."

"The group will want to look at ways of doing this and will be considering some very initial suggestions."

"Anyone who wants to get involved is very welcome to attend on November 3rd. We'd love to have a larger group involved."
