Burnham-On-Sea beach is set to be filled with sword fighters as the unusual spectacle of hobby horse jousting returns for its third year this coming Sunday (July 19th).

Beginning at 1pm, a parade of characters in costumes, led by the king and his knights, will take place on the sands next to The Pavilion.

A choreographed jousting display and competition will take place, with pupils from Highbridge’s King Alfred School fighting the king.

Spectators will be able to watch on from the sea wall steps, and see over 50 people in costume battle it out, with the queen awarding the chalice to the winner.

All funds raised on the day will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Event organiser Gaynor Brown said the event will be enjoyable for all the family and she appealed for more local people to volunteer as knights and swordsman. To get involved call Gaynor on 01278 238714.
