Burnham-On-Sea BMX cyclist Liam Phillips has become the first man to claim back-to-back titles after winning the BMX Supercross World Cup in the United States.

The 26-year-old came sixth in the final of the last in the series over the weekend but, having won three of the five rounds in the series, he clinched victory.

“It’s been an unforgettable season and I can’t thank those that support me enough,” said Liam.

He won in Manchester, Sweden and Argentina and finished ahead of Dutchman Niek Kimmann, who picked up 735 points overall compared to Liam’s 865 points overall.

Liam – a former pupil of Berrow School and Highbridge’s King Alfred School – has been an active member of Burnham BMX Club since the age of four. He represented Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics.
