RNLI lifeguards start summer duty on Burnham and Berrow beaches

-

RNLI Lifeguards are back on Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow beaches this weekened for the start of the summer season.

From Saturday (July 4th), they will be on the beaches daily from 10am until 6pm to provide safety patrols.

Amy Sellick, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor for the Somerset region, said: “We hope everyone visiting the beach this summer has a brilliant time but it is important to remain safe whilst doing so.”

“In order to take care we advise visitors to attend a lifeguarded beach where the lifeguards can provide appropriate safety advice and encourage people to swim between the red and yellow flags.”

A Sedgemoor District Council spokesperson added: “The RNLI Lifeguards will provide an additional service at our Seaside award-winning Burnham and Berrow Beaches alongside the Sedgemoor-employed Beach Wardens.”

“We advise all beach users to closely follow safety signage and listen to any advice and warning information issued by our Beach Wardens or the RNLI Lifeguards – staff are there to ensure your safety.”

RNLI lifeguards provide an important service in helping to save lives at sea. In 2014, 19,353 people were aided and 92 lives were saved by the RNLI lifeguards on over 220 beaches across the UK.
