Child taken to hospital after house blaze near Burnham-On-Sea

A child was taken to hospital following a house fire near Burnham-On-Sea.

Firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea, Weston and Bridgwater worked throughout the night on Wednesday into Thursday to tackle the blaze.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was initially called to the property in Wick Lane in Lympsham, at 10.44pm.

The two-storey home was “well alight” when crews arrived and it took several hours for the fire to be extinguished, said a spokesman.

Crews were still on the scene at 6.30am on Thursday morning, although the fire had finally been extinguished.

One child was taken to hospital by paramedics due to the effects of smoke inhalation. An investigation by fire crews into what caused the blaze has begun.
