An unusual type of weigh-in was held during Saturday’s Burnham Food and Drink Festival.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Marine Cove Community Gardener and the Burnham Horticultural Society held a marrow growing competition.

It comes after the group was busy sowing marrow seeds at the May Food and Drink Festival with those who took part in the activity being encouraged to return during the October event to show off what they have grown in the interim months.

The giant marrow weigh-in competition saw some family rivalry and William, who is in year 3 at St Joseph’s School, triumphed over his father!

William started his marrow from seeds collected at the May festival. Congratulations also went to runner-up Francesca and a special mention was also given to Millie who won the smallest marrow.
