Fundraising event in Burnham raises over £1,000 for quake victims

The organisers of a fundraising event in Burnham-On-Sea to help those affected by the Nepal earthquake say they have been "overwhelmed" by the strong support of residents.

Large numbers turned out to support the fundraiser at Burnham's Baptist Church on Saturday (June 6th) which was held in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, who are directly helping the Nepal earthquake victims.

There event saw a sale of used clothing, bric a brac and toys, refreshments, cakes, a raffle and tombola plus a visit by several Frozen characters.

Padam Rai from the Gurkha Welfare Trust told "It has been a terrible few weeks after the earthquake, but we are very grateful for the support from your country and all the local people."

Organiser Lynda Hobbs added: "I'm actually quite emotional and overwhelmed at the wonderful support shown by people here in Burnham."

"We had a large number of donations for the sale - the amount has been incredible and we thank everyone who has given us their support, helping us to raise £1,046. I would also like to thank Georgina Blackmore and Leanne Underhill for all their support in helping to run the event."
