National Trust seeks volunteers for Brean beach clean this Saturday

The National Trust is appealing for volunteers of all ages and abilities to join a beach clean at Brean on Saturday (March 21st).

The clean-up operation is being held as part of the Trust's annual 'Big Beach Clean Week' and follows recent high tides and storms which have left a trail of debris along local beaches.

The clean-up of the beach will take place on Saturday 21st March from 11am until 2pm at Brean Beach.

Nick Lawrence, the National Trust's coast festival director, said: "Litter is not only putting off tourists but is killing over 100,000 marine animals every year from entanglement or indegestion of items discarded on our beaches."

"There are 17 beach cleans happening across the South West during the week and these cleans help improve the coastal habitat for plants and animals but most of all the cleans are great fun and suitable for all the family to take part in, you don't need to book, just turn up."

Volunteers interested in helping should meet and park at Brean Down National Trust car park for 11am. National Trust wardens will be on hand to help. Volunteers should wrap up warm with suitable clothing and boots. More information is available by calling 01452 814218.
