A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after two people were injured when his car crashed into them in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday (April 17th).

As reported here, emergency services were called to Oxford Street near the junction with College Street following the tea-time collision.

Police spokesman Scott McPherson confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The male driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.”

He added: “We were called shortly before 3.30pm to reports of an collision in Oxford Street.”

“A car was in collision with two pedestrians before colliding with a street bench.”

“The injured parties were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital. They are not thought to have life threatening or life-changing injuries.”

The road was temporarily closed while police were at the scene, causing queues of traffic in the surrounding area as vehicles were diverted.
