A pancake race featuring local businesses and groups is set to be held in Burnham-On-Sea’s High Street on Shrove Tuesday (February 17th).

A dozen teams representing local businesses and groups will be battling it out to win an engraved silver frying pan by competing in a series of relay races.

Town Centre Manager Beverley Milner Simonds, who is organising the event, said: “The race is designed to introduce some healthy competition between our shops, businesses and local partners.”

“There will be a series of heats between competitors with those with the fastest times qualifying for the finals. There is a glittering, engraved frying pan for the winning team – and a special prize for the best pancake tosser.”

The races will begin at 11am in Burnham High Street and the final is scheduled for 12.30pm.

“I have got the stopwatch ready and the trophy is gleaming. I think this will be a great spectator sport and I hope that people come along to races to cheer on their favourites.”

Teams competing are Avalon Insurance, Burnham Baptist Church, Burnham Food & Drink Festival, Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, Chatterbox Cafe, Gemini Tae Kwon Do, Larkins 99p Store, Saxons Estate Agents, St Andrew’s Church, The Children’s Society, The Pet Shop and The Ritz Cinema. Chatterbox Café will be supplying all the pancakes.
