Building work to expand Burnham-On-Sea Pavilion gets underway

The expansion of Burnham-On-Sea's seafront pier as part of a £100,000 overhaul has begun this week with the removal of the covered food court area.

Louise Parkin, who manages The Pavilion on Burnham's Esplanade, has started the work to install a £60,000 high-tech folding roof and other improvements.

"The existing covered conservatory area that forms the current food court has this week been removed after being sold to a South Wales building firm who will use it to display kitchens," she told

"The new roof is scheduled to arrive on September 7th immediately and the furniture will then come later this month. We will have 104 covers in the new covered food area and will be open through the winter months."

Back in March last year, The Pavilion was granted approval for the work to install the £60,000 high-tech folding roof along with another £40,000 of improvements.

Sedgemoor district councillors said they wanted to help the economic vibrancy of the attraction, which is renowned for being Britain's shortest pier.
