£100k project to expand Burnham Pavilion ‘to go ahead this autumn’

-

The expansion of Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront pier as part of a £100,000 overhaul is set to go ahead this autumn, its owners have said this week.

Louise Parkin, who manages the Pavilion on The Esplanade, was granted permission to install a £60,000 high-tech folding roof and other improvements last year.

She said this week that the construction work had been scheduled to get underway shortly, however the start of the project has now been moved to September.

“We had hoped to get the new roof up for the six week summer holiday, but due to unforseen circumstances it will now go up in the week of September 7th,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We had put the conservatory onto an online auction site, but have temporarily withdrawn it because of the date change. However, anyone interested can contact me at The Pavilion, bearing in mind that the structure will have to come down the week prior to September 7th.”

Back in March last year, The Pavilion was granted approval for the work to install the controversial £60,000 high-tech folding roof along with another £40,000 of improvements.

Sedgemoor district councillors said they wanted to help the economic vibrancy of the attraction, which is renowned for being Britain’s shortest pier.
