£100,000 expansion project sees new roof arrive at Burnham’s pier

-

The expansion of Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront pier as part of a £100,000 project is taking shape this week as the new covered area outside is built.

Louise Parkin, who manages The Pavilion on Burnham’s Esplanade, is overseeing the work to install a £60,000 high-tech, folding roof plus other improvements.

The covered area is being constructed over the front forecourt this week and is due to be completed over the next few days.

“It’s all going to plan and we’re pleased with how it looks,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The new roof should be completed this weekend and our new custom-made furniture will be arriving in October.”

“There will be some raised seating over by the far wall to let customers eat while watching the beach and tide.”

“Later in the year, a local builder will also be filling the 6ft gap between the roof and the kiosk – we couldn’t put that up until the roof is complete as that has to be flush.”

“The hope is that we’ll be open throughout the winter months – there will be 104 covers in the new covered food area.”

Back in March last year, The Pavilion was granted approval for the work to install the £60,000 high-tech folding roof along with another £40,000 of improvements.

Sedgemoor district councillors said they wanted to help the economic vibrancy of the attraction, which is well known for being Britain’s shortest pier.
