Pensioner receives special award for services to the community

-

A West Huntspill pensioner has been awarded a Community Award for services to the village.

David Holley received the special award from Terry Orchard, Parish Council Chairman, during the village’s civic service, held at the weekend.

He was nominated by villagers for all his hard word with several communoty groups in the village over many years.

“David is a true West Huntspill man, having lived in the village all of his life. As a boy he sang in the choir at St Peter and All Hallows before becoming a Sunday School Leader, a church warden, reader and a member of the PCC,” said Terry.

“David still takes short services and for the elderly at the Mini Day Centre. He was one of the village team who was instrumental in improving the Balliol Hall and seeing the change from the Harvest Supper Committee to the present Balliol Hall Committee in the 1970s.”

“A past Chairman, maintenance officer and committee member, he is also a former school governor for many years. He is also a founder member of the present West Huntspill Players and a founder member of the Balliol Short Mat Bowls Club. David is a very deserving winner who supports all village activities.”
