Burnham-On-Sea Amateur Radio Club gears up for busy year

-

Burnham Amateur Radio club is going from strength to strength as it continues to grow eight months after being formed.

The group has recently been issued with its own official callsign – G4RGY – and is also running a foundation radio licensing training course.

It regularly operates its own radio station using loaned equipment at the Burnham Area Youth Centre, and is in the process of raising funds to purchase its own.

“We welcome new members, whether or not they can attend evening meetings. The quality of all club activities relies on an active core membership, so you can be sure of a welcome if you participate in any of the club activities, as we all benefit from each other’s enthusiasm and experience,” said a spokesman.

“The club is a group of individuals who like to explore and have fun with radio, electronics and computing with an emphasis on radio and communication technology.”

They meet every first and third Wednesday of the month, with doors opening from 7pm until 9pm in a meeting room at The Bay Centre in Cassis Close, Burnham.

Its next high-profile event will be on the 20th June when there will be a fun day at the centre, when members will be assisting Moose International with a commemorative special event radio station, and trying to communicate with America by using the medium of the international morse code.
