Burnham rowing club takes to the water for first time
new Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing Club in Burnham-On-Sea has held its
first row this week.
group - which was formed last month - held its first row in Bristol
Docks on Saturday morning (September 12th).
the help of Clevedon Gig Club, 11 of he club's rowers took two
gigs out for over an hour.
exception the gig rowing community has been keen to help our efforts
to start a gig club and Clevedon have been particularly supportive,"
said Dave Wrennall, Sailing Club Commodore.
Clevedon instructors were most impressed by how quickly the mixed
crews were working well together and rated them as well above
average for a first row."
"This is the first in a series of rows in sheltered waters
to provide experience and training over the coming months in preparation
for us owning our own boat and rowing regularly on the River Brue
in the new year."
Burnham Sailing Club President David Humphries joined the crews
on the water and said the only way to really appreciate this sport
is to try it, and when we have our own boat we hope lots of local
people will want to join us and have a go for themselves."
