Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets are seeking volunteers to help with running the popular group.

At the end of this year, three of the group’s trustees will be retiring from the Unit Management Team.

The group is therefore looking for new trustees to join them.

“If you have skills, knowledge and experience which could contribute towards the continued success of your local Sea Cadet Unit – or are a former member of the Cadets looking to get back involved then we would like to hear from you,” said a spokesman.

Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets is a youth organisation for 10-18 year olds providing challenges to the young people based on the tradition, skills and values of the Royal Navy.

Every year, the trustees of the Burnham & Highbridge Sea Cadet Charity – which is registered as #273886 – face their own challenge of raising sufficient money to cover the normal day-to-day operating expenses of the unit and for the special capital purchase that ensure safe facilities and modern equipment.

Due to the growing number of cadets, there is a need to make building alterations as well as update unit transport and equipment.

“To achieve these objectives we are seeking to appoint new enthusiastic Trustees. We would be particularly in interested in hearing from you if you have knowledge and skills in any of; finance, governance of youth based organisations, fund raising or naval experience,” added the spokesman.

“However this is not all we are looking for and just an enthusiasm to help is of great benefit.”

“If you have time and energy to spare, are a good communicator and are enthusiastic about working with an organisation training in a wide skill set, providing opportunities to gain national qualifications and preparing Cadets for adulthood, we are interested in hearing from you.”

“A Trustee would be required to attend monthly management meetings at the Unit in Cassis Close and a couple of ceremonial events each year. Working alongside the Commanding Officer the role is to formulate decisions that ensure the success of the Unit and Cadet safety.”
