A wildlife rescue centre near Burnham-On-Sea will be holding a special two-day event to attract new volunteers this weekend.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill is holding a Volunteer Recruitment Open Weekend on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June, where local people can find out more about volunteering.

The busy centre relies on volunteers to help rescue, rehabilitate and release wild animals.

“We have seen a record number of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals in need of help recently, with over 1,000 wildlife casualties over the past month alone,” spokeswoman Nicola Round told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We are in need of more volunteers to help give these animals the best possible care.”

Secret World’s volunteer recruitment weekend will be held on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June, from 10am-4pm on both days at the centre in New Road, East Huntspill (TA9 3PZ).

People will be able to try out some of the tasks an animal care volunteer would carry out and see some of the animals that they could work with.

“Volunteering offers many benefits. You can enjoy a unique experience, caring for and rehabilitating a whole range of British wildlife. Secret World cares for birds, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and more. You can gain valuable work experience, and a reference for work or education. You can meet new people from all age ranges and backgrounds with a common cause.”
