M5 Sedgemoor Services car blaze tackled by Burnham fire crews

-

Plumes of thick black smoke rose into the sky above Sedgemoor Services near Burnham-On-Sea on Friday afternoon (October 16th) during a car fire.

Three fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston were sent to the M5 Southbound after eyewitnesses confirmed a car was well alight.

“There had been a caravan attached to the car but this was removed,” said a fire spokesman.

“Crews used one compressed foam jet, two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”

The car was severely damaged by the fire and was left in the hands of the Police and the Highways agency. No-one was hurt.

The incident caused disruption to users of the service station with the sliproad closed for several hours.
