Burnham-On-Sea town centre revamp ‘on track for Easter completion’

-

Work to revamp Burnham-On-Sea’s town centre is on track to be completed for Easter, the Town Council has said this week.

Pavements in the centre of the High Street have been resurfaced with new paviers over the past week, pictured here.

And work to install new lighting columns, sign posts, noticeboards, flower planters, cycle racks, hanging baskets and event banner columns is also underway.

Paul Martin, the Town Council’s Project Manager in charge of the work, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the work is running to plan.

“It’s moving forward well and I’m very pleased with the progress,” he said. “The work is on track to schedule for Easter.”

“The new pavements in the High Street look really attractive and that section of the road will also be resurfaced before Easter, providing the weather allows it.”

“The majority of the new street furniture is now installed – such as planters, cycle racks and noticeboards. We’re about half way finished with hanging basket stands.”

The work aims to enhance the appearance of Burnham town centre to encourage more shoppers and visitors.

The changes are part of a combined work package amounting to £440,000 funded by Tesco to offset the expansion of its Burnham store, along with grants from the Town Council and former South West Regional Development Agency.
