Travellers leave Burnham car park after threat of council legal action

-

A group of travellers that set up camp in a Burnham-On-Sea car park have left following the threat of legal action.

The travellers moved into Burnham’s Pier Street car park last Sunday (July 26th) and left on Thursday night (July 30th).

Sedgemoor District Council – which owns the car park – had started legal proceedings, and spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the case was due to be heard on Monday 3rd August in Weston County Court.

But the convoy departed on Thursday evening and the district council’s Cleaning Surroundings Team completed a full clean-up on Friday.

Several large caravans and towing vehicles had been parked up across multiple spaces in the car park at one of the busiest times of the summer season.
