Fall in unemployment figures welcomed in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

Unempolyment is falling across the Burnham-On-Sea area, according to new figures out this week.

There are now 657 people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance across the constituency, which includes Burnham and Highbridge, which is 373 fewer than a year ago, representing a fall of 36 percent.

The news was this week welcomed in the area. James Heappey, prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Burnham, pictured, said: “It is great news that fewer people here are now having to rely on Jobseeker’s Allowance and instead, have the security of a job and regular wage.”

“Each week, I am learning about new apprenticeships and full time jobs that are being created across our area and this shows how confidence is growing amongst local employers.”

“In the next five years, I hope to work with local businesses to drive down unemployment even further. We should be proud of what has been achieved so far but there is still so much more to do.”
