Burnham-On-Sea aims to become the first coastal town in Somerset to be awarded ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ accreditation in a bid to encourage more walkers to visit the seaside town.

A project has been launched to seek official accreditation for the town in an effort to promote Burnham as a great destination for walkers from across the country.

To gain the accreditation, interested residents and representatives from local groups are being encouraged to attend an open meeting this week.

It will be held on Wednesday October 21st at 8pm in The Princess Theatre when those interested can hear more about the scheme and how to get involved.

The local project is being co-ordinated by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade. There are more than 100 places in the UK that have become members of the Walkers Are Welcome scheme since it started in 2007, with five in Somerset alone.
