Burnham-On-Sea celebrates Womens Institute centenary
100th anniversary of the Womens Institute was marked with a special
celebration in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (September 12th).
Centenary Exhibition was held in The Princess Theatre, where craft
demonstrations and displays were held throughout the day.
exhibition showed what the WI has achieved over the past 100 years,
and members of the WI from across Somerset were on hand to share
their knowledge, with lots of information about what has happened
since the first WI group was formed in 1915 in Wales.
Belles of Burnham WI group also held their own celebratory challenge
with three groups of members taking to the streets for their own
version of 'Bargain Hunt', looking in the town's local charity
shops for items most likely to raise money at a fundraising auction
due to be held on 6th October.
Adams, secretary of Burnham WI, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A
very successful day was held at the WI 100th Anniversary Exhibition.
The tea and home-made cakes proved to be very popular by the many
who turned up to visit us!"
