Burnham wildlife artist's work goes on show at town's theatre

A Burnham-On-Sea artist is showcasing her work at the town's Princess Theatre this week.

Mary Thompson's wildlife paintings are on display in the Arts Lounge from July 23rd until July 31st from 10am-3pm on every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Among her varied work is this painting of Egret and other wild birds.

"When the Great White Egret was returned to nest in Somerset, I decided to paint the pair, in flight and nesting," she told

"I then went on to paint other Somerset birds, the heron, the owl and the swan. When I visited Slimbridge I photographed the cranes and the avocets and also painted them."

"The birds are a symbol of freedom, especially in flight, but they are also symbolic in themselves of aspects of humanity, caring loyalty, knowledge."

"The heron is a symbol of Somerset, living in the wetlands. I have also painted aspects of the Somerset landscape and other creatures living there."
