Strong onshore winds swept through the Burnham-On-Sea area over the weekend, creating breezy beach walks and perfect conditions for land yachting enthusiasts at Brean.

The gusty 60mph winds were welcomed by members of Brean Land Yachting Club, pictured here taking part in a competition on Sunday.

The stormy weather led to Saturday’s scheduled carol singing event in Burnham’s seafront Marine Cove gardens to be moved indoors to nearby St Andrew’s Church.

Forecasters say further stong winds and heavy rain are expected over the coming week for the Burnham area, however with mild temperatures there is no sign yet of any wintry weather.
