Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights are installed ahead of switch-on

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights have been installed this week ahead of the town’s big festive switch-on this coming Saturday (November 21st).

The new festive lights have been installed in Burnham’s High Street, College Street and Victoria Street.

They will be switched on during a whole day of entertainment outside the Victoria Hotel on Saturday, starting from 12 noon.

Local community groups and schools will be performing festive entertainment in the lead-up to the switch-on at 4.45pm by Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis. There will also be the annual BOS Factor competition, with entries currently being invited.

The new lights, which are overseen by Burnham Chamber of Trade, replace the old illuminations which were several years old and had become too costly to repair and maintain.

The new lights have been bought by the Town Council using funding from the Tesco 106 funding ‘pot’ to offset the expansion of Burnham’s Tesco store in recent years.

Town Clerk Denise Emery told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is good example of the council working together with local groups for the benefit of our community.”
