Tourism businesses in Burnham-On-Sea enjoyed a great Bank Holiday weekend, with trade boosted by the balmy weather.

The town’s beach and holiday parks were busy with visitors as the half-term school holidays coincided with the Bank Holiday and warm early summer weather.

Holiday park owner Steve Atkins from Burnham’s Home Farm told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a very good start to the season – the weather has been favourable and many of our Bank Holiday weekend visitors have extended for the whole week, making us virtually full.”

Beach concession holder Valda Prodanodic, who runs a set of trampolines on Burnham beach, added: “Trade has been amazing – we’ve had our busiest weekend for a very long time. The weather brought lots of visitors to the beach.”

The Coffee Corner Company’s Zina Driver in Abingdon Street added: “It’s been a good weekend of trade, no doubt helped by the weather – we would love the sunshine to stick around for another four months!”

Chris Mills at the Toy Cupboard gift shop in Pier Street said: “Saturday was quiet for us during the Food Festival, but trade picked up later on. The festivals should be held on quieter weekends away from Bank Holidays, but Sunday was very good for us.”

Elsewhere, Ann Fudge at the Bay View Cafe on The Esplanade added: “We’ve been very busy all weekend – it’s been superb.”

And Lee Bond at The Esplanade Fish Bar added: “We’ve been very busy for most of the weekend but were quiet during the Food Festival. That event knocks trade at this end of the town.”

The warm weather experienced over the weekend saw temperatures nudge towards 70F on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
