Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercraft charity has been given a financial boost with a donation from a local bowling club.

The volunteers at BARB Search & Rescue – who run the town’s two rescue hovercrafts and inshore rescue boats – received a cheque for £335 from Mark Bowling Club this week.

“We wanted to support a Burnham charity where the funding would get put to good use locally and, having seen the hovercrafts in action on our local beaches, we knew BARB was our choice – they do a marvellous job,” said a spokeswoman.

“The money was collected during the summer bowls season from fines on the greens, donations from the teams, and a very generous raffle where the prizes were donated by members at our end-of-season game.”

BARB’s Mark Newman thanked the group, saying the donation was “greatly appreciated” by the charity and will help towards the cost of training and equipment for the organisation’s volunteer crewmembers.
