Beach wardens will be returning to duty in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow this week for the start of the new holiday season.

Sedgemoor District Council’s wardens go back on duty this Thursday (March 24th) and will then be in place until mid-September.

They supervise beach activities, provide basic first aid, issue jetty permits and collect car parking fees on Berrow Beach.

“All staff are also trained by South West Ambulance service to administer defibrillation and oxygen therapy as well as basic first aid,” said council spokeswoman Claire Faun. “All the staff have also been successful in qualifying for their Open Water Emergency Action Awards.”

In the high season of July and August, the beach wardens will once again be joined by RNLI lifeguards on Burnham and Berrow beaches.
