Photos & Video: Brent Knoll beacon lit to mark Queen's 90th birthday

A beacon was lit on top of Brent Knoll last night (Thursday) to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

A chain of beacons was lit across Somerset, with Glastonbury lit first followed by Brent Knoll and Uphill.

Over 50 villagers walked up the hill to watch organiser Peter Osborn set fire to the hay bales at dusk, as pictured here.

Peter, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on top of the Knoll: "This has become quite a tradition. We always know light a beacon here on the Knoll for special occasions. It dates back to Victorian times when the first one was lit back in 1897."

"We have lit beacons for the Queen's silver, golden, and diamond jubilees and also the anniversary of VE day - we always get plenty of support from local people and it's great the beacon can be seen for miles around."

Dozens of people walked up to watch the spectacle holding home-made lanterns and patriotic flags to mark Thursday's 90th birthday.
