A BMW was left severely damaged after a blaze on the M5 motorway between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Saturday evening (October 22nd).

One fire crew from Burnham-On-Sea and two further appliances from Avon Fire and Rescue were called out just before 6pm after reports of a car on fire.

Crews used a compressed air foam jet to bring the fire under control, however the vehicle – a BMW X5 – was left severely damaged by the fire.

One lane of the southbound M5 carriageway and the hard shoulder were closed while emergency services were at the scene, pictured here.

Highways England said that the motorway was fully re-opened and that traffic was flowing freely again by 6.30pm. No-one was understood to have been hurt in the incident.
