Council warns Burnham and Highbridge residents over bogus calls

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge residents have been warned to be aware of bogus telephone callers claiming to work on behalf of Sedgemoor District Council.

The council has issued a warning to residents, stating: “If a customer has recently received a telephone call and been asked for their bank details they should phone the police immediately and contact their bank.”

“If, at any time, a customer has any doubt about the identity of a person telephoning or visiting and claiming to work for Sedgemoor District Council they should request their full name and extension telephone number and ring 01278 435435 (Sedgemoor Direct) to confirm the staff members identity before giving any personal details.”

“All staff carry ID badges with the Sedgemoor logo clearly displayed. Members of staff will never ask for cash or bank details during a home visit.”

The council added that anyone wishing to pay council bills can do so by going online at www.sedgemoor.gov.uk or calling Sedgemoor Direct on 01278 435435.
