Pupils at a school in Highbridge have a bigger choice of hundreds of extra books to read thanks to a fundraising push.

The pupils at Churchfield School and nursery took part in a sponsored read, raising over £900.

And Claudette Murley, an Independent Usborne Children’s Books organiser, also organised a community book pledge scheme, inviting local businesses to help the school, which raised a further £245.

Claudette, who has helped the school get just over £2,000 worth of books for free, said: “I would like an opportunity to thank the businesses who have helped us publicly for their donations.”

Usborne helps schools by giving them a percentage of free books depending on how much they spend. Anything over £600 and Usborne will give 60% on top for free.

The new books have been delivered to the school and they were on display for the parents to see this week. Six children have also received prizes for raising the most funds in each key stage.
