These were the dramatic scenes in Highbridge on Wednesday (March 30th) when fire crews were called to a blazing car.

The fire service received a number of calls reporting large plumes of black smoke in Newtown Road shortly after 11am.

Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea were sent to the scene to tackle the blaze.

“Crews confirmed a car was well alight and they got to work using a hose reel jet, and one Compressed Air Foam (CAFS) branch,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Crews confirmed a car had been destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.”

No-one was reported to be injured in the incident.
