Burnham-On-Sea police are hunting for the driver of a car which crashed through two walls and slammed into two vehicles late on Friday night (April 29th).

The Volvo driver careered off Highbridge Road just before 11pm and was seen running away from the scene.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene and a search for the driver is underway.

Resident Dave Allen, whose car was one of those damaged, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Volvo was being driven in the direction of Burnham when it crashed into a wall, hit a Citroen Berlingo, went through a second wall, and then damaged my Ford and a gas meter on the front of the house.”

“The driver got out and ran off through the trees on the opposite side of the road towards the direction of Marine Drive.”

He added: “There was a very loud bang when the crash occurred – it was heard across the whole area.”

Dave said that several pedestrians nearby at the time were fortunate not to have been hit.

“There were three people walking just a few paces away from where the car crashed – they are very lucky not to have been hurt,” he added.

An eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The speeding car was heading toward Burnham when it lost control on the Highbridge Road bend near the Police Station, and crashed through two garden walls and hit parked vehicles. The driver ran off after crashing and we gave chase but lost him.”

Once fire crews had made the vehicles safe, the debris was removed from the road during the early hours of the morning.

The damage was clearly visible on Saturday morning, as pictured here, with broken bricks over the driveway in front of the damaged Citroen Berlingo.

Burnham-On-Sea Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information should call them via 101.
