police drink driving campaign heads into town
Police held a thought-provoking display in the town centre at the
weekend to promote their latest drink driving campaign.
damaged remains of a car following a serious drink drive accident
went on show in Burnham's Lynton Road Car Park where officers handed
out leaflets to promote responsible driving.
were also invited to wear a pair of 'beer goggles' that alter the
person's vision to simulate being drunk, as pictured below.
taking part were then invited to try a number of walking challenges
to demonstrate how the effects of alcohol impact balance and judgement.
Tracey Grobbeler told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It was a great success,
and generated a lot of interest with the public."
taking part in the challenge were shocked to find they were unable
to walk in straight lines whilst wearing the 'beer goggles'."
display comes just a few weeks before the start of the annual Christmas
drink driving campaign, which aims to prevent accidents and deaths
over the festive period.
