A busy programme of more than 90 community events is to be held in Burnham-On-Sea during 2016, it has been confirmed this week as local organisers met to agree the dates of a joint guide.

Burnham’s new 2016 programme of events is available to download here and was agreed during a meeting of event organisers this week, overseen by Burnham’s Tourism Manager Ian Jefferies.

Scores of family events are also set to be held over the next 12 months on the beach, in the town centre and in local parks for residents and visitors.

Highbridge’s long-running Festival of the Arts will be held at The Princess Theatre in Burnham from February 29th-12th March.

The 69th annual event, right, will see hundreds of entrants from across the south west competing in dance, speech and drama and music.

Burnham’s Beer Festival returns to the town’s Ritz Social Club from April 29th -2nd May, and there will also be a May Day Celebration at Marine Cove on May 2nd.

Two Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festivals will be held during 2016, on 28th May and on October 22nd with plenty of tasty treats on offer to visitors.

Dozens of classic vehicles will return to Burnham’s seafront during the popular 2016 Vale of Avalon Vintage Road Run, pictured below, on June 4th.

The Queen’s official 90th birthday celebrations will be marked with a series of community events between June 10-12th on the seafront and elsewhere in the town.

For children, Burnham’s Youth Day and Parade will be held on the town’s beach and seafront on 12th June. There will also be numerous fun-packed events on the beach over the summer, including Backalong Avalon on 24th July, plus a Teddy Bears Picnic in Marine Cove on July 22nd, and a Pirate Day on 4th September.

Sedgemoor District Council’s hugely-popular annual Sedgemoor Play Day will be held at Apex Park on 3rd August when crowds of families will descend on the park for a day of fun.

And making a return splash will be Burnham’s annual Stert Island Sea Swim, which will be held on Sunday 7th August, the same day as the annual ‘Escape Day’ emergency services day on the seafront, which is overseen by BARB and involves scores of groups.

And the summer season will be rounded off with a Kite Festival on Burnham’s beach on 17th and 18th September, and Brean’s Country & Western Music Festival from 29th September-9th October.

The 2016 Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Weekend will be get underway with a dazzling fireworks display on the beach on Sunday 6th November, ahead of the big parade through town on Monday November 7th.

This week’s meeting of event organisers was organised by Ian Jefferies, who said he was pleased at the final schedule. He said: “This week’s meeting was successful and productive – we had a good turnout of organisers and it’s great that everyone is pooling together their expertise to avoid clashes.”
