A faulty tumble drier is believed to have been the cause of a big blaze near Burnham-On-Sea overnight that gutted a farmhouse in East Huntspill.

Four fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater were called to Court Farm in Burtle Road, East Huntspill, late on Thursday evening, as pictured here.

They found the building well alight with flames jumping through the roof and windows, as pictured on the right.

Firefighters used water hoses to battle the blaze to bring it under control. Water was taken from a nearby rhyne to top up their supplies.

“The building was unoccupied and no-one was hurt. We don’t believe the incident was deliberate – it appears to have been caused by a faulty tumble drier,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Western Power Distribution cut power to neighbouring homes around the building while crews tackled the blaze.
