Highbridge Festival of the Arts to celebrate 70th anniversary in 2017

-

The syllabus for the 2017 Highbridge Festival of The Arts has been released this week as the event gets ready to celebrate its 70th anniversary.

The 2017 event will be held from 6th – 18th March and the closing date for entries is Tuesday 10th January, 2017.

The first festival 69 years ago was held with an afternoon of performances at Highbridge Town Hall. Since then, the event has grown dramatically and features in excess of 1,500 performances over 12 days in three venues.

The festival showcases the talents of performers aged from 4 to 84, in the spheres of speech, drama, dance and music.

Nigel Hess, Joint President of Highbridge Festival of The Arts, has sent his best wishes to the Festival Team as they prepare for the 70th year.

The syllabus for the 2017 Festival is now available here, and Nigel says: “Do take a look and take the opportunity to enter. You never know where it may lead.”

Nigel has been President and supporter of the Festival for many years and is very keen to encourage young people to share and develop their talents in the performing arts.

He read music at Cambridge University, and has since worked extensively as a composer for the stage, screen and concert hall. His numerous works include scores for the Royal Shakespeare Company, HRH The Prince of Wales, the Royal Air Force and many television series such as New Tricks, Maigret, Wycliffe and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. He has received the Ivor Novello award twice for Best TV Theme and was nominated for a Classic Brits Award for his film soundtrack to Ladies in Lavender.
