for new fish and chip shop in Highbridge wins council backing
for a new fish and chip shop on a Highbridge housing estate were
given backing by town councillors last night (Wednesday) despite
concerns raised by some residents.
the proposals, a new fish and chip shop will open at 20 Morland
Road alongside the convenience store which opened last autumn.
John Parkes said: "While I have no objection to the plans
and want to encourage new business, I do fear there may be a knock-on
effect to the trade of existing food shops in Highbridge. Church
Street is already struggling."
Andy Brewer added: "This is also a more central location
for a fish and chip shop which will be closer to residents homes
on the Morland estate. Customers will appreciate that they do
not have to walk to Church Street to get their food."
meeting was told that two residents had lodged complaints regarding
the plans, with one expressing concern about potential food smells
from the premises.
town councillors heard that the county's Environmental Health
team has asked for further clarification on the take-away's odour
suppression plans, noise control, and night-time opening hours
with a view to placing conditions on the shop.
Planning Applications Committee approved the scheme without observation,
but Chairman Cllr Andy Brewer said the Environmental Health team's
points had been noted. The final decision on the plan lies with
Sedgemoor District Council.
