Photos/Video: Stranded fishermen rescued by lifeboats off Brean Down

Lifeboat crews and Coastguards have rescued a boat with two fishermen onboard after it lost power in the Bristol Channel near Brean Down on Sunday afternoon (March 6th).

The vessel got into difficulty and began drifting after suffering an engine failure shortly after 2pm.

"The fishermen onboard dropped their anchor several hundred metres off Brean Down Fort and raised the alarm," said Burnham Coastguard Dave Welland.

Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston were called to the scene and they co-ordinated the rescue from the end of Brean Down.

"Two Weston RNLI lifeboat crews checked on the welfare of the two onboard and then towed the vessel back to the safety of the shore."

The incident occurred in the waters off Brean Down. Flat Holm island is seen here in the background.
