The final countdown to this Saturday’s Burnham-on-Sea Food & Drink Festival is underway.

Over 100 traders will be showcasing the best of Somerset food and drink at the town centre event on May 28th, which will be the 8th since it started.

Several new elements have been added to the line up – a cookery school which will host free drop-in classes throughout the day, and the launch of two new after-hours meals.

There will also be a new Pilton cider bar on Princess Street and a Boulton Spirit gin bar in Victoria Street.

Several KDS Fresh Ideas outside cooking demos will be held with a BBQ focus – the line-up will include ITV BBQ Champ Simon Dyer, Country Wood Smoke’s Marcus Bawdon, BBQ blogger Ben Forte and local legend Nigel Smith.

The rolling BBQ demos will be co-ordinated by Quiet Waters Farm who are the masterminds behind the two after-hours meals at the end of Saturday’s festival, with just 40 tickets available.

Festival organiser, Sarah Milner Simonds, said: “People have told us that they want more of the festival and so we are really pleased to be working with John Gower of Quiet Waters Farm to create these two special meals.”

“John has pulled together an incredible team of BBQ cooks who will be demonstrating their skills on wood and coals throughout the day at the KDS Fresh Ideas Stage. This low and slow style BBQ will then form the heart of the Food Festival Feast at 5pm.”

The highlights of the festival will be celebrated at the 8pm meal, with a theme of rustic fine dining, with four courses prepared from ingredients served at the event.

Festival organiser, Beverley Milner Simonds, said: “The festival strives to create an atmosphere and an occasion where people come together, learn about food and drink, and experience new flavours. We work hard to support our traders through social media support, creating a good footfall, providing connections and contacts and supporting them as they grow.”
