Over £1million of damage as 160 caravans destroyed in Highbridge fire

160 caravans worth more than £1 million were destroyed in a huge blaze at Highbridge Caravans early on Saturday (October 1st), as shown in this video of the aftermath.

Philip Davies, Director at Highbridge Caravans, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We are devastated that this has happened - more than 100 caravans have been destroyed and, as each has a value of around £10-£15,000, the overall figure will be around £1million."

As first reported here, fire crews were called from across Somerset to battle the huge blaze at the site at around 1.30am.

Mr Davies added: "I'm thankful that our security guard spotted the fire early, avoiding it spreading further. I also thank the emergency services for their work - we had ten fire engines here at the peak of the incident."

"We also thank the community for their kind wishes and support at this difficult time."

"Fortunately, the fire did not spread to any buildings and no-one was hurt, so our business is open and we continue as usual."

"Our workshops, sales area, accessories and awnings shop are all open for business."

"Our annual show weekend is also going ahead as usual - we are all pulling together and the show goes on."
