Burnham-On-Sea charity given funding boost by town insurance firm

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Higos Insurance Services is backing a voluntary search and rescue service in the town with a donation.

BARB Search & Rescue is an independent charity run by more than 20 volunteers who are on-call 24 hours a day and operate two life-saving hovercrafts and inshore rescue boats.

The charity’s noticeboard, which was located on the northern end of its seafront station building, had been in place for ten years but was damaged beyond repair during a storm earlier this year.

The noticeboard was used for updates each time BARB were called out, which helped to spread awareness and safety information, as well as promoting essential fundraising events.

Therefore, the Higos Community Fund has donated £350 to BARB to cover the cost of a new noticeboard.

Mark Newman, BARB Chairman, said: “We are very grateful to Higos for generously presenting us with this donation to enable the purchase of a new noticeboard outside our hovercraft station. It is hugely important to us in promoting the work of our charity, informing passers-by about the latest rescues we have conducted, and advertising fundraising events that are so crucial to a small charity like us.”

Flick Franks of the Higos Community Fund commented: “We are thrilled to help out such a fantastic local charity who have been called out over 30 times already this year. We hope the new noticeboard continues to help raise awareness and promote the great work of the charity’s dedicated volunteers.”
