PHOTOS: Burnham-On-Sea fire crews rescue trapped horse

These were the scenes when fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rescued a horse stuck in a water-filled ditch at a farm in Lympsham on Wednesday (September 7th).

Crews were called to Whitegates Farm in Lympsham just after 1.30pm to free the horse, which was 18 hands tall and six years old.

One fire engine from Burnham-On-Sea was sent to the scene, along with a specialist rescue team from Barnstaple.

"Crews secured the area and liaised with a vet who was in attendance. A farmer on scene helped by using a mechanical digger to dig away at the bank to make better access," said a spokesman.

By 3.15pm the specialist rescue team started using a Hampshire lifting tool, strops and lines to lift the horse out of the ditch.

By 4.15pm the horse was rescued and duty of care was left with the vet and owner.
