MP talks up Burnham-On-Sea’s economy during town recruitment fair

-

Hundreds of people from across the Burnham-On-Sea area flocked to a recuitment fair in the town on Tuesday (February 16th) where local employers promoted their vacancies.

Sedgemoor District Council organised the event at Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre, which was also attended by the town’s MP James Heappey.

Mr Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “With unemployment locally at just 1% there continue to be many more jobs than there are job seekers – a reflection of just how strong the Somerset economy is.”

“The jobs fair was brilliantly attended by businesses and job seekers alike. I totted up around 3,500 jobs on offer ranging from apprenticeships all the way through to directorships,” he said.

“Most encouraging were the jobs on offer with Hinkley C contractors. With both BAM and Laing O’Rourke offering thousands of jobs in civil engineering and with the offer of training through local colleges for those that need to re-skill before applying.”

This week’s annual event was aimed at local residents looking for jobs or who are considering a change of employment, or who want more information about improving their employment prospects.
