A man has been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea following a police chase through the town at the weekend that ended in a seafront crash.

As first reported here, several residents saw the silver Audi pictured here being pursued at speed by police along Marine Drive and The Esplanade before its driver lost control in Maddock’s Slade. Then driver then ran away from the car.

Police spokeswoman Niamh Byrne told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A vehicle pursuit took place at around 1.30pm on Saturday November 5th after a vehicle tried to make off from police.”

“The vehicle was in collision with a wall in Maddock’s Slade before the driver made off on foot.”

She said the police helicopter had been called in to search for the man, who was later found and arrested for driving while disqualified.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle hit a pavement curb, then struck the sea wall, before coming to a rest in Maddock’s Slade with a damaged wheel, as pictured below.
