Burnham-On-Sea group presents bumper £9,000 to local good causes

-

A Burnham-On-Sea group has handed over a bumper £9,000 to local good causes this week – including more than £7,000 to the region’s air ambulance.

Members of Burnham-On-Sea Moose Ladies Circle, which fundraises through the year, handed over the record sum at their annual changeover meeting in Berrow.

“Burnham-On-Sea Moose Lodge 123 Ladies Circle have been working hard over the last twelve months, holding coffee mornings and other fundraising events, such as regular charity collections at Sedgemoor Services and other venues,” said Moose Ladies Chairman Doreen Atyeo.

Devon and Somerset Air Ambulance received the lions share of the funds, a huge £7,098.51, while Weston Hospital’s Cardiac Unit received £1,000.

Colin Thomas from the air ambulance said: “We thank the Moose Ladies for this donation. Previously we had received over £33,000 from Moose, and this cheque brings the total amount donated to more than £40,000.”

He explained that the funding would help a new initiative to introduce a fully trained trauma medic in the normal flight crew. He added that a new replacement air ambulance is due to come online soon which have the ability to air-lift two patients at once.

Further recipients of £125 each were Somerset Time for Youth, Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club, Music for the Memory (who also received a personal cheque for £100 from Mike Lang – from the proceeds of recent ladies night photography event), ESCAPE Support Group, Burnham & Highbridge Band, The Jordan Wright Fund.

Children in Need also received £1,213.80, which was raised by collections made at Sedgemoor Services on the M5 northbound near Burnham-On-Sea.
